TRUE GRIT

Okay, So I got around to seeing this.  I really don't like westerns, but Ive seen enough to know what other consider a good western.  This is remake of an older version with John Wayne and if you are fan of the original(which I did not see and you more than likely aint seen that shit either) I am pretty sure this newer version will not disappoint.

Now the story is about a little girl, Mattie Ross, whose father got killed trying to help some 2 bit criminal(yeah I said it) Tom Chaney.  Now little Mattie is a 14 year old girl who is in search for the man, Chaney, who murdered her father.  Mattie isn't the most likable character, in fact, off the back I didn't like her, but she was respectable.  Her goal was to get shit done and she wasn't taking no for an answer.

She hires a US Marshall, Rooster Cogburn, who she thinks is fit for the job of this manhunt.  After hearing his testimony of killing men and not feeling a damn regretful about it she was convinced he had the "Grit" for her task.  I feel she seen some of herself in this dude, who was also an asshole but an aging one.  He didn't really want to help her but this little bitch was persistent(I dont care! I didn't like the character-good acting on the actress part obviously).

While waiting in town staying at a relatives house she found a Texas Ranger by the name of La Boeuf(Matt Gamon) was also looking for Tom Chaney for busting a cap in a Texas senators ass.  Yeah, this Tom Chaney is a baaaaaaddddddd guy! Through a discussion and some sass she finds he wants to take Cheney back to Texas.  She threw a serious spitfire disrespectful responses at La Boeuf in conversation and he expressed he should whip her ass and she responded back with SURPRISE, sass.

Her 'grit' won La Boeuf and Cogburn over as they tried to leave and get Chaney themselves but she was determined to go with them out in the 'Injun' country and see Chaney killed or captured.  She damn near drowned crossing a river with her horse getting to the other side.  Well that incident let Cogburn know she wasn't going to be deterred and caved in and let her ride along.

Fast forward, they catch up to Chaney and turns out he is just a bitch ass underling in a gang headed by - Ned Pepper.  I know, that is a cool name.  Well Ned lightweight bitched him in a situation which eventually led to Chaney's demise.

Cool for a one time watch.  Again I am not a big fan of westerns something about them just aint my cup of tea, but I have watch quite a few in recollection.  Its no Unforgiven by long shot but its str8.  Look for this shit to be given praise by the mainstream as one of the best movies of the year and blah blah.  Make no mistakes on my review the direction in this is decent, as westerns go, nothing groundbreaking though.  The images they portray are effective in portraying this "glorious" story though.  But, again, all in all its str8.
